Getting to Tasmania: Launceston airport is serviced by Jetstar, Virgin Blue and Tiger Airways. You can also travel into Tasmania via sea on Spirit of Tasmania with a nightly crossing from Melbourne to Devonport. Day sailings are available during Summer months.   Driving: A current Australian (or international) driver’s licence is required. Speed limits are 50kmh in built-up areas and 100kmh outside cities and towns, unless otherwise sign-posted. Tasmania has a .05 alcohol limit for fully licensed drivers.

Shopping: Normal retail hours are approximately Mon-Fri 9 am-5.30 pm, Sat 9 am-4 pm, Sun 10 am-3 pm, however shop hours can vary across businesses.

Banks: The majority of banks open between 9.30 am and 5 pm Mon - Fri.

Public Transport: Launceston is serviced by buses operated by Metro. Timetable information is available by calling 13 22 01 or visiting www.metrotas.com.au.
For scheduled bus transport across the State, contact Tasmania’s Own Redline Coaches (1300 360 000) or Tassielink Coaches (1300 300 520). Manion’s Coaches operate West Tamar services and current timetables are available by calling the driver direct on 0419 548 948. Sainty’s Coaches operate a frequent schedule from Launceston along the East Tamar to George Town. Call Sainty’s on 6334 6456 for up to date timetables. See also page 10 for taxi services.
